PIOCHE |
|
Another of Nevada's living ghost towns, Pioche was notorious during its mining heyday as a place where dozens would
meet a violent end before anyone died of natural causes.
The lawless days began with the discovery of gold and silver in 1863. Among the town's relics are the overhead cable car
system used to haul ore and the cemeteries where murderers and their victims are buried, often with colorful inscriptions
on their headstones.
The notorious "Million Dollar Courthouse", a prime example of government corruption and graft, has been restored and houses the
Lincoln County Museum.
