HAWTHORNE

This desert community is the gateway to Walker Lake where cutthroat trout attract fishermen.

The Mineral County Museum offers natural history exhibits and historical artifacts.

Golfers enjoy the splendors of the Walker Lake Country Club on the ground of the former U.S. Navy Ammunition Depot.

The once ore-rich Lucky Boy District south of town lures rock hounds who search old diggings for nuggets.

Several ghost towns in the area include Aurora and Bodie (California).
