BAKER

The Great Basin National Park visitor center located in our small town of Baker, Nevada is a great introduction to the area known as the Great Basin. The Lehman Caves Visitor Center and the cave entrance are located five miles West of Baker on HWY 488. Baker is known for its famous and funny fence-post art and its proximity to numerous recreational opportunities, including the Mt. Moriah Wilderness area just to the Northwest of Baker and the Sacramento Recreation Area on Sacramento Pass. With miles of old roads and trails, the Recreation area is great for mountain biking. Opportunities for hiking, and camping are abundant. Hunting, fishing and ATV riding can be enjoyed on the public lands surrounding the Park.

We hope our web site will nudge you off the beaten path, away from the crowds and entice you to come where you can enjoy warm high desert days, cool breezes scented with sage in the evening and a spectacular blanket of stars at night. As Biff Henderson on the David Letterman Show said about Baker - "It's quiet, peaceful, beautiful and the people are friendly."

If you want to spend less time driving and more time visiting the Park then Baker and Snake Valley are the best places to stay. Services in the valley include 3 motels, 1 rental cabin, a guest ranch, 1 bed & breakfast, 4 restaurants, 2 gas stations, 3 RV campgrounds, 2 convenience stores and 3 bars. There are 30 slot machines at the Utah Nevada border. 5 Gift/art stores for shopping and the Post office. For more information about the area please visit http://www.greatbasinpark.com.

The Great Basin Business & Tourism Council would like to welcome you to the Great Basin National Park and surrounding area. We're glad you're coming to visit Nevada's largest national park and we look forward to helping you explore this vast area of high desert and timbered mountains.

Great Basin National Park
From the valley floor to the 13,063-foot summit of Wheeler Peak, Great Basin National Park includes streams, lakes, alpine plants, abundant wildlife, a variety of forest types including groves of ancient bristlecone pines, and numerous limestone caverns, including beautiful Lehman Caves. Campsites and Cave Tours are available daily throughout the year. Visitor Centers are open 363 days each year.
